Description
Mastic oil is the essential oil obtained from the distillation of natural Mastic. The yield in mastic oil varies depending on the quality of the mastic from 1%-3%. The mastic oil with the mark of the Union of Mastic Producers of Chios is pure and unadulterated, guaranteed as a genuine mastic distillate. It was first produced in Germany, in the city of Braunschweig, by dry distillation. In 1573 it became known in the circles of pharmacists in Berlin and later in 1580 in the "Augustine Pharmacopoeia" (Pharmacopoea Augustiana).
Chios Mastiha is the natural resin of pistacia lentiscus var. Chia, a tree which grows only on the Aegean island of Chios, Greece. Scientific research shows that Chios Mastiha has anti- microbial, anti- inflammatory, and healing activity. Also, it has beneficial effects on both body hygiene and skin care.
